How To Stump A Skeptic By Pointing Out His Bad Logic

Wow, this feels like crazy timing considering I just lamented about abortion in my last post, but today I got on Word Press, and one of the “hot” blogs highlighted was “How to Stump Anti-Abortionists With One Question.” Well, naturally I couldn’t just pass by that one, now could? The question  (non-verbatim) was the following: if murder is illegal, then should women who have abortions be tried for murder and receive the death penalty?

The post included a video of some circular and kinda pathetic reasoning from pro-lifers, which led the blog author to conclude that if we pro-life folk couldn’t bring ourselves to say that these women deserved the death penalty, then we knew deep down that abortion wasn’t murder.

Au contraire, my friend, au contraire.

For one thing, it’s already a law that if a pregnant woman and her unborn baby are killed, then the killer is tried with two murders. For another thing, not all murder automatically gets the death penalty. A fifteen year old who kills an adult probably will just do some jail time; I don’t see why a fifteen year old killing her own baby is any different, should abortion ever be outlawed.

Another huge point is that I honestly don’t think most women understand what they are doing when they have an abortion. They’re told it’s just a mass of cells, not a baby. (Um, reality check…humans are just a mass of cells, adults are just a much bigger mass.) But the mothers don’t know that before they even know they’re pregnant, the baby has most if not all of it’s major organs, including a beating heart and often brain activity. The people who do know all of this, though, are the ones who perform abortions. They see the bodies every day, yet are callus enough to continue with their line of work. I have no problem whatsoever in seeing them receive some form of punishment (though NOT from the hands of vigilante extremists, mind you). Along those lines, I feel like women should be better educated before being able to receive an abortion. I think she deserves to understand the magnitude of what she is doing.

I’ve mentioned this in previous posts, but my sentiments toward abortion do no stem from an apathy for the girls and women who are scared into a last resort. My heart goes out to those who don’t have anyone to turn to because of their mistake, but that doesn’t mean they can just pretend it didn’t happen. Life is full of consequences! If you know you wouldn’t be able to care for a baby, there are two simple solutions: 1.) Don’t have sex or 2.) Use protection! It’s not rocket science, ladies and gentlemen.  It’s a very simple equation:

Sperm + egg= baby

Alternately:

 (sperm+egg)/condom=no need for a babysitter

Of course, being aware that accidents happen and realizing that even the best protection can fail is another key ingredient. That’s part of why I just won’t do it until I’m married. No single mamma-hood for me! Nor will I have to worry about the temptation to correct my mistake.

I included the link to the post that led to this rant below, check it out if you’d like to.

By the way, if you’re a man who has fathered a child but you’re just going to ignore that whole situation in hopes that it will go away…it won’t. You need to be a real man and face what you helped to create. One of my friends is having to go it alone right now because a person she thought she could trust decided he didn’t want to stick around and take care of his mistakes. I can’t say how much I admire my friend for how well she is handling this, and I can’t how much men who do what he did disgust me. I think I actually am more revolted by them than the women who have abortions because they are so afraid of raising a child alone.

  1. Thanks for the link! By the way, we can both agree on abortion in one way — we both are not for it. I don’t want women to have abortion. I counsel against it, and will continue to do so, except in rare circumstances.

However, I think it should be safe and legal for those who feel the need to do it. (And the last part is where we differ.)

Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  2. I am not expressing my position one way or the other, but I just wanted to say that not all birth control is successful. Look at Rachel and Ross when they had Emma.

Fortunately, you and I shall die virgins, and never have to worry about this.

  3. Ha! Oh this is true.

And knowing my luck, that 0.01% of people who get pregnant while on the pill, yeah that would be me.
