Last Chance

Well everybody, we have less than 24 hours until the polls open and one of more historic elections begins. Either way, we’ll be witnessing a first. If Obama wins, we’ll have our first African-American president; and if McCain wins, we’ll have our first woman vice-president. So if we’re going strictly for the history books here, it’s a win-win situation.

Of course, we all know that it isn’t just for the history books. The next president has a huge job to do, and we all have different opinions on how that job should be done. With that in mind, I will say one more thing about this election and then keep my mouth shut: VOTE!

If you don’t vote, then you can’t complain about what’s going on since you never took the chance to offer your opinion. As funny as his statement may have been, don’t follow the Jay Leno route “If God had intended us to vote, he would have given us candidates.” (That’s an old quote, not from this election.)

I’m gonna wrap this up here without offering anything to sway you. You’ve seen commercials upon commercials for the two men going for president, so by now you should know what they stand for. But don’t forget that tomorrow isn’t just about the president. We have senators and members of the house on the ballot too, and the combined lot of them are just as powerful as the president (checks and balances, afterall.) Don’t waste tomorrow! Get out there, stand in line, make your voice heard!

On a quick side note, I do have to say I find it hilarious whenever people/celebrities (yeah, I do make that distinction, celebrities are clearly not people 😉 ) threaten to leave the country if so-and-so gets elected. I wonder when that first became a fashionable thing to say, cuz I’ve still never heard of anyone who made good of their claim. All I have to say to those wild threats, after I’m done snickering, is that if you love your country, don’t leave her alone to deal with a president you don’t approve of. Protest, lobby, run for a public seat yourself, but don’t act like a spoiled little brat who will run away if they don’t get what they want. Unless you’re being severely persecuted for something innocent (but I can’t think of anyone who has been publicly flogged for their religious beliefs lately), stay here and fight for your cause.
